Ever heard the adage “desperate times call for desperate measures?” Well, it suits our current situation perfectly!
With people struggling to restore an ecological balance on Earth and with climate change wreaking havoc, we have no other option but to mend our ways if we wish for a better tomorrow for our children and grandchildren. Thankfully, there are people who are hard at work to do just that.
Scientists and entrepreneurs are working on products that can be helpful to human civilization while also having less of an impact on the environment. And luckily, today, we’ve compiled some of these extraordinary inventions that could drastically reign in issues like global warming and climate change.
#1 – Alternative Plastics
We have no qualms in saying that plastic is one of the major pollutants on Earth. Despite its harmful effect, it is primarily useful for packaging. But now, with products like Agar seemingly on a roll, we can finally bid farewell to plastic and paper. Agar, an eco-friendly material made from seaweed (mainly two different kinds of red algae), will soon take over the packaging industry. Plus, plastic produced by Avani Eco, an Indonesian company known for creating plastic from cassava vegetables, is also set to replace conventional plastic items.
#2 – Multi-purpose Solar Panels
We all know how expensive installing solar panels can be but when they’re available in abundance, the price is surely going to go down. Companies are now trying to make clean energy an achievable goal and they are offering solar panels in various forms such as solar windows to provide electricity to a whole building and solar mobile screens to avoid endless charging, among other options. There’s even a Solar Roadways scheme to make entire highways from solar panels and really leverage energy production from renewable resources.
#3 – Ocean Cleanup
In the past few years, interest in marine life has risen in a big way. People have since become more and more concerned about the organisms living underwater and their safety, and this has given rise to many ocean cleanup projects. For instance, the largest ocean cleanup drive that promises to clear out the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, known to be three times the size of France, uses a floating pipe to gather the dirt and garbage. Similarly, the Seabin Project, founded by Australian surfers, uses a small device to collect all of the trash dumped in water bodies. Even manufacturers are jumping on the bandwagon to produce products from this oceanic waste–BUERO, a Chile-based company, creates sunglasses and skateboards from ocean waste.
Bottom Line
As individuals, we don’t have to expend a lot of extra time or money to do our bit for nature. Adopting healthy measures like avoiding plastic in any form, cleaning the beach area, etc. can go a long way to make the world a better place.
