Usually, excuses don’t stem from a desire of not wanting to do something.
In fact, there are several factors that lead you to take cover behind an excuse. Sometimes, people don’t trust or believe in themselves, which leads to them making excuses in hopes that they can delay these tasks as much as possible. In reality, however, this only makes things all the more difficult in the long run.
While it might take some effort, once you break this vicious cycle, you’ll not only achieve your goals but will also have improved confidence and self-esteem.
So here’s what you need to remember the next time you think of laying your excuses on someone.
1. Giving Up is Not the Solution
If you get an opportunity of a lifetime but your self-doubt begins to kick in, it’s time to stand your ground and convince yourself that you can and you will complete the task at hand. Most of the time, people give in to these thoughts and miss out on life-changing opportunities. Instead, you have to stand strong and say yes.
2. Be Okay with Failing
When people make excuses, they are generally scared of not achieving a preferred outcome. Always remember that with every opportunity, you will either succeed or learn. There’s so much that you have to learn and experience, so even if you don’t succeed on your first attempt, consider it as a learning opportunity.
3. No Comparing
Everyone has different goals in life and they have different paths that they take in pursuit of these goals. Your journey is different from everyone else’s, which is why it is pointless to compare yourself to others. So, before you think about comparing yourself to someone, remember that “comparison is the thief of joy.”
4. Take Accountability
Sometimes, people tend to play the blame game instead of taking accountability for their actions. You’ll never be able to learn and grow from a situation if you don’t hold yourself accountable for your shortcomings.
5. Cut Yourself Some Slack
You need to learn and accept the fact that you are not instantly good at everything. It is okay to take your time to learn certain things. Before you start blaming yourself for what went wrong, remember that you tried your best and in most instances, that’s good enough.
